What To Do When Things Go From Bad To Worse

Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.”

(Mark 5:25-26)

An optimist always focuses on the good when others are focused on the bad. People of faith focus on the positives instead of the negatives. While others are singing the blues, people of faith are praising God. A pessimist focuses on the negative, regardless of how positive the situation. Pessimists are governed by fear rather than faith. A realist sees things just as they are - positive or negative, good or bad... however it is, that’s the way they see it. Mark said that this woman’s situation went from bad to worse. That was the reality of her physical condition. Perhaps that is your current reality. You’re not a pessimist, you know God, walk with God and trust God but, the fact is, things for you are going from bad to worse. So... what do you do when you have done all you know to do and YET… things seem to get worse? Consider with me for a few minutes what this lady did.

She Stopped Doing The Same Things Over and Over and Getting The Same Results. Sometimes we must do something different in order to experience something different. Instead of going back to the same places, spending more money... she went to Jesus. If we want to experience more of God, we will have to make a change... do something different in our seeking of Him. The strength of our desire will determine the intensity of our pursuit. Hungry people passionately pursue the Presence of God.

When She Heard About Jesus and What Jesus Could Do, She Moved Toward God/Jesus (v. 27). What do you know about Jesus? I will tell you what I know: He is the Son of the Living God, He lived a sinless life; He died on the Cross as payment for the sins of the world, He saves, He heals, He breaks the shackles of addiction; He loves me when I am right and He loves me when I am wrong and He’s a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother... what do you know about Jesus? When you know about Him you want to move toward Him, not away from Him. Whatever your situation is right now, I encourage you to move toward God. Well or sick, money or no money, calm or chaotic, bound or free... move toward God.

She Had Faith For A Miracle. A lot of people don’t believe in miracles, until they need one. This woman needed a miracle. What about you? I’m writing these words today for some people that need a miracle in their marriage, in their finances, in their business or a miracle of healing in their body. Notice what she said (v.28): “If I may touch His clothes, I SHALL BE WELL”. When we move in faith, God moves in power. From the standpoint of her feelings, this woman did not feel like leaving her house and pressing through a crowd and reaching out to touch Jesus as He passed by. So with us, we must let faith lead and feelings take the back seat.

I don’t know what you need from God today, but that same Jesus is passing your way. I encourage you to move toward God in faith. Indeed, things may be going from bad to worse, in your situation but, we serve a God that can turn it around. My prayer is: Father, in the name of Jesus, touch that person whose marriage is getting worse, whose sickness is getting worse, whose finances are getting worse and turn it around and may they KNOW IT in their spirit as this very prayer is being read. Amen!
