The Power of One...
It’s been said that there is strength in numbers. In the natural realm, that is always true, but not so much in the spiritual realm. God has never needed a mass to work a miracle. We’re talking about the power of “one”. One decision to follow God can impact multiple generations. The opposite is also true: one decision to reject God can wreck a family and bring untold turmoil and trouble to multiples of generations……the power of one.
“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”
(I Timothy 2:5-6)
“One” mediator…Jesus Christ! One life lived: one life given…. multiplied millions redeemed by His shed blood… the power of one! Only eternity will reveal how many addicts have been set free, how many broken homes put back together, and how many lives wrecked and ravaged by sin were restored and made whole by this one mediator, Jesus Christ. Take Jesus out of your life and where would you be? I don’t need several saviors and multiple plans of salvation…I just need One Jesus whose blood still makes the vilest sinner clean… the power of one!
“And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.”
“One” touch of the Master’s hand brings healing and wholeness. Leprosy is a horrible disease. It eats away the flesh and over time marks and mars the human body. Lepers were isolated and ostracized from family and friends and labeled as “unclean”. The Bible says that Jesus stretched out His hand and healed him and declared: BE CLEANSED! Regardless of how sick in body, mind or marriage you may be….the Hand of Jesus is stretched out and one touch from God can heal and change what no amount of money or medicine can change…the power of one.
“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.”
One of the last prayers that Jesus prayed was for all believers to be one. In fact, in this one passage Jesus said it three times. Of all the things Jesus could have prayed for over His people - why this? Because, He knew the power of one. Jesus knew well the power of unity. That’s why racism and prejudice and ANYTHING that divides us, must be shunned. Whatever divides God’s people weakens God’s people and their influence on an unsaved world. When we harbor resentment and spite towards anyone, for any reason. we are working against the very prayer that Jesus prayed. God’s people… God’s Church worshiping, working, witnessing, and walking together, in the Spirit is incredibly powerful! When we do that, we don’t have to carry signs or have press conferences to make a difference in this broken world. Love always draws and attracts… The Power of One.
