Take Up the Whole Armour of God

Ephesians 6:10-13

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

For many people, spiritual warfare is defined by financial difficulty, a strained relationship or a criticism spoken on social media. Going forward in 2021, spiritual warfare may take on a seriousness which few of us have even imagined. That which Paul spoke of in Ephesians Chapter Six is a very real warfare: those that walk with God vs. powers of darkness. In fact, much of what we are seeing on the political scene is not about one-party warring against another… this a very real battle between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light. So…what do we do?

Let’s just take it straight from the Word of God. I will preface the following with this, - we must keep our eyes on Jesus….be wise…be informed, put our faith is in the Master, not the media.

  1. Be Strong in the Lord and in the Power of His Might. This speaks of a choice… BE STRONG! We’re not talking about our strength. Be strong in the Lord and in the Power of His might! How does that happen? Strictly through intense prayer and time in the Word of God. Proverbs 4:20-22 says “Attend to my words, incline your ear to my sayings, do not let them depart from your eyes KEEP THEM IN THE MIDST OF YOUR HEART. For they are life unto those that find them and health to all their flesh”. Hear me today…you and I need the power of His might to lead strongly and wisely and aggressively.

  2. Put on the Whole Armour of God. That armour is listed in detail in the verses that follow our text (verses 14-17). To do this, we must acknowledge that there is an armour for us to put on. Notice the armour: truth, righteousness, peace, the shield of faith and the knowledge of our salvation. Hell can’t penetrate that armour… regardless!

  3. STAND! Stand for Biblical Truth and Biblical Values. Stand means, take a stand—step up and speak up under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

  4. Pray in the Spirit. That involves more than mumbling a few words to God during our morning commute. Praying in the Spirit is fervent, persistent, consistent, passionate, faith-driven prayer.

I believe the greatest opportunities for winning the lost will take place this year. This will not come without difficulty, opposition and spiritual battles but, God has provided everything we need to walk, work and serve with victory!
