Part 2 - You Are Invited

(Part 2)

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

(Matthew 11:28-30)

It’s written in red signifying that these are the words of Jesus: “Come unto me”. Jesus reminds us to do what we should know to do. Truth is, we don’t always do what we know we should do. Regardless of whether we are on the platform, behind the pulpit or in the pew—we don’t always go to Him. We go this direction and another direction. We search the internet. We vent and seek some sense of solace from our Facebook friends…. but we don’t always do what He said do and that is: go to Him. He bids us to come unto Him. He draws us unto Him by His Spirit. As a Christian you will understand what I am about to say: He is Irresistible… yet, He can be resisted.

Who is it that is invited to go to Him? All that labor and are heavy laden. The NLT says: all that are weary and carry heavy burdens. Is that you? Tired. Worn. Weary from work and weary from worry. Those who feel loaded down. Does the weight of life have you at a low point? HE SAID, “Come unto ME, and I will give you rest!” Sometimes the rest we need is not the rest we seek. Most importantly, we need rest in our spirit. There is a weariness that no amount of sleep can cure. How we need the “rest” that comes from and can only come from being at the feet of and in the restful Presence of Jesus.

Jesus takes the invitation even further: “take my yoke upon you and learn of me”. It’s possible for a person to attend church, sing the worship songs, listen to the message and yet never really “learn of Him”. You can’t know what hasn’t been learned. Is it possible that we have MANY people that attend church but don’t know Him because they haven’t opened their heart and studied His Word in order to “learn of Him”. They call your church their church…but they don’t know Him. They call your church their church…. but, they don’t know Him. They sing the songs and give in the offering but they have never learned of “Him”. It is imperative that we preach, teach, pray, and lead so people will “know of Him”.

His invitation stands. Weary? Over-loaded? Overwhelmed and overcome? The invitation stands: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
