“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”.....Psalms 11:3

Atop of the Capitol dome in Washington, D.C., is a twenty-foot statue of the “Freedom Lady”. Her face is framed in a crest of stars and she holds a shield of stars and stripes in her hand. This monument was shipped from Rome. History records that in route to America, the ship encountered a fierce storm during which the captain ordered some of the cargo thrown overboard. The sailors wanted to discard “Freedom Lady” but the captain refused. Shouting above the wind, he said, “Never! We’ll flounder before we throw freedom away!” Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who give up liberty for safety deserve neither liberty nor safety!”
This coming Saturday is Independence Day. We will celebrate our independence and freedom as a nation. May I preface the following thoughts, by saying that I love America and understand very well that with all that is wrong in this country, it is still the best place in the world to live. Down through the annals of time, multiplied thousands of soldiers have fought that we might have the many freedoms we enjoy. Yet, it seems that many of those freedoms are slipping away from us. Without a doubt, we are a blessed country. Having said that, I think you would agree that we live in a very troubled nation. God, nor His Word, is welcome in our schools or on government properties. The killing of babies in the womb is legal. The homosexual lifestyle is flaunted on prime-time television. Co-habitation seems to be acceptable among Christians and non-Christians alike. As horrible as it is, and with so many people affected by it, Covid-19 is not our biggest problem. Our biggest problem is a pandemic of immorality, hate and violence that permeates every sector of our society. While all this is going on, democracy in America is being overtaken by a socialistic insurgence from the top down.
As disturbing as all this is, there is an answer. A praying church is still the most powerful influence in the world. Inward fighting, nor rage-infused demonstrations will heal our nation. Political parties are powerless to bring America back to God. But… when a blood-washed church prays… something happens that makes Hell tremble!
God-called preachers are still prophets to a wayward world. The church’s message to a Christ-less culture must be more than “Seven Simple Steps to Success”. The pulpit must call people back to a walk with, and reliance on, a God that cannot fail. Ministers, I urge you to stand behind your pulpit as men and women of God, preach the Word with fire, faith and compassion and challenge your people to pray for revival in America. As we enjoy July 4th with family and friends… remember to pray for our nation!
